Ⅴ ABB News
ABB India partners with Indore Smart City Development Limited to provide continuous power supply in Indore
• ABB uses the latest digital technology to supply continuous electricity to the city of Indore
• This technology has already enabled more than 2300 connections to achieve electricity 24/7
• Compact secondary substation (CSS) ensures a steady and reliable power supply to connections
ABB has teamed up with Indore Smart City Development Limited (ISCDL) to deploy next-generation digital technology that ensures that residences and businesses have access to electricity at all times. During the initial phase of the collaboration, this technology -enabled over 2300 connections to have continuous power with an efficient automatic response system (ARS) in the event of power outages or disruptions. ABB and ISCDL now intend to replicate the approach in other parts of the city, positioning Indore as a model for smart city projects throughout India.
Indore is Madhya Pradesh 's largest city, with a population of over three million people and various important industries. Indore is also a part of the government's plan to build 100 smart cities across the country. One of the most important characteristics of a smart city is the availability of energy 24 hours a day, seven days a week to enable digital transformation and the provision of critical services to inhabitants. Indore has set a goal to increase smart city development in line with its global'swachh' character.
Through digitally integrated SCADA systems, ABB's Compact Secondary Substations (CSS) employed in the project save downtime by ensuring a consistent and stable power supply. The CSS also contains inbuilt Feeder Remote Terminal Units, which employ a remotely monitored SCADA system to keep track of each household's use in real-time, maintain a healthy network, and restore power quickly. The SCADA Centre connects ABB's integrated Feeder Terminal Units, allowing control and monitoring of low voltage connections as well as real-time feedback on power distribution data. Power outages were common due to the old manual method. The tiny substations are also assessed for personnel safety, helping the city achieve its goal of safe and intelligent power distribution.
Compact Substations are made in India, as part of ABB's commitment to the "Make in India" mission and the development of domestic best-in-class manufacturing capabilities.
"We are thrilled to cooperate with the Indore Smart City Development Limited to support Indore in becoming a next-generation smart city," said Kiran Dutt, President – Electrification business, ABB India. ABB's world-class digital solutions will ensure that electricity is delivered on a consistent basis, which is critical for the expansion of a lively city like Indore."
"We are happy to engage with ABB in our aim to establish the smart city of Indore," stated Rishav Gupta, IAS, CEO, ISCDL, of the relationship. A smart city's backbone is efficient electrification, and ABB's technology-led approach has yielded promising results in the initial phase of deployment. As a result, the number of outages has decreased, and interruptions have been resolved more quickly."
"We are thrilled to be affiliated with ABB and ISCDL to serve the people of Indore and give leading world-class technology, creating Indore a smart city," said Amit Gupta of Abhinav Enterprises, an ABB Channel Partner for the past 14 years. We look forward to working with ABB on additional initiatives like this in the future to help Madhya Pradesh realize its smart city goals."
