NRF52840 Internal regulator
The USB interface is the nRF52840 Dongle's default power source. The nRF52840 SoC's on-chip high voltage regulator is powered by the USB port.
The SoC and LEDs are powered by the regulator's output. Along the board edge, there is also a USB power connector (VBUS). A connection point for VDD OUT, the output of the nRF52840 SoC high voltage regulator, is located next to VBUS. See the nRF52840 Product Specification for the maximum power draw from this pad, taking into account the power draw of the onboard nRF52840 and the LEDs.

NRF52840 External regulated source
Through the VDD OUT connection port, the nRF52840 Dongle can also be powered by an external regulated 1.8–3.6 V supply. SB2 must be cut and SB1 soldered in order for this to happen.

NRF52840 Buttons and LEDs
A green LED (LD1), a multicolor RGB LED (LD2), a user-customizable button (SW1), and a reset button are all included with the nRF528540 Dongle (SW2). The nRF52840 SoC has dedicated I/Os for the LEDs and buttons.
