EYE on NPI: Nordic Semiconductor’s nRF5340

Overview of NRF5340

The NRF5340 is an all-in-one SoC that includes a superset of the nRF52  ® Series' most important capabilities. Bluetooth  ® 5.3, high-speed SPIQSPIUSB, up to 105°C working temperature, and more are paired with increased performance, memory, and integration, all while consuming less power.

The application processor is performance-optimized and may run at 128 or 64 MHz thanks to voltage-frequency scaling. It has 1 MB  of flash memory.  512 KB  of RAM, a floating-point unit (FPU), an 8 KB  2-way associative cache, and DSP  instructions. The network processor runs at 64 MHz and is designed to be energy efficient (101 CoreMark/mA). It has a flash memory of 256 KB  and a RAM  of 64 KB.

Overview of NRF52840

With complete protocol concurrency, the NRF52840 is fully multiprotocol capable. Bluetooth LE, Bluetooth mesh, Thread, Zigbee, 802.15.4, ANT, and 2.4 GHz proprietary stacks are all supported.

The NRF52840 is based on a 32-bit ARM  ® CortexTM  -M4 CPU  with a 64-MHz floating-point unit. It has an NFC  -A tag for use in pairing and payment options that are more convenient. On-chip, the ARM  TrustZone® CryptoCell cryptographic unit provides a wide range of cryptographic choices that run very quickly and independently of the CPU.
