Purchase Guide

The DW01A is a battery protection IC that protects against overcurrent, overcharge, and over-discharge and comes in a small SOT-23-6 package. This article mainly covers datasheet pdf, circuit schematic, alternative, features, and other details about DW01A battery protection IC. Furthermore, there is a huge in stock. Welcome your RFQ!

This video shows and explains OverCurrent Protection, UnderVoltage and OverCharge protection using the TC4056/TP4056 with DW01 Chip.

Lithium Battery Protection using DW01 and TC4056 USB Tested and Explained

What is DW01A?

The DW01A battery protection IC is designed to protect lithium-ion/polymer battery from damage or degrading the lifetime due to overcharge, over-discharge, and/or overcurrent for one-cell lithium-ion/polymer battery-powered systems, such as cellular phones.

The DW01A-ultra-small G's design and minimal exterior components make it perfect for integration into battery packs with limited space. The safe and full usage charging is ensured by the exact 50mV overcharging detection voltage. During storage, the very low standby current drains very little current from the battery.

How to Use DW01A

The circuit below shows how the DW01A chip is supposed to be used:

DW01A typical application circuit.jpg

DW01A Typical Application Circuit

It is designed to be coupled to a battery pack as part of a single unit that includes the battery and the DW01A chip.

This is true because of the following:

The CS pin protects from reverse connecting of a charger.

Voltage limits for over and under voltage detection are outside normal charging / discharged levels. They are specified to be extreme values.

Latchup protection when a charger is connected under over-discharged conditions.

The operating current is so low it won't discharge the battery if left in place attached to the battery.

When used as part of a battery pack, it protects against the charger connected to BATT+ and BATT-, as well as reverse polarity protection from plugging in a charger the wrong way around or even plugging in a completely improper and dangerous charger, such as a NiCad or NiMh charger (do not try this).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is DW01A?

The DW01A-G battery protection IC is designed to protect lithium-ion/polymer battery from damage or degrading the lifetime due to overcharge, over-discharge, and/or overcurrent for one-cell lithium-ion/polymer battery-powered systems, such as cellular phones.

What is the use of DW01A?

The DW01A chip is a battery protection device for a single cell Lithium-Ion battery and it protects the cell from over and undercharging, reverse connection, and short circuits. You can typically find this chip on TP4056 breakout boards (Lithium-ion charger chip).

How DW01A works?

The DW01A requires an external dual FET to control the ground line to the battery. By using the FET, the ground line is disconnected during current error conditions (Short circuit, over-discharge, overcharge). This isolates the Lithium battery until the load is removed (in the case of a short circuit).
