Although the CR2016 and  CR2032  batteries appear to be very similar, there is a minor difference between them. The CR2032 and the CR2016 are coin-type batteries that look similar and provide the same voltage. The significant difference between these two batteries is their power capacities and sizes.

The shelf life of CR2016 batteries is usually six years. However, one battery company says that its single-use silver-zinc battery would last for ten years. According to watch manuals, a CR2016 can run the device for two years, especially those from G-Shock watches.

Some others believe they are merely a conservative approximation. The battery in your watch could survive seven years or more if you don't utilize the auto EL light function, the hourly chime, or the alarm. It's vital to remember, however, that their capacities differ. The CR 2032 has a 240 mAh capacity, but the CR2016 only has a 90 mAh capacity. The CR2032  may last up to 10 hours; however, the CR2016 only lasts approximately six hours, depending on the power you're using.

Both batteries are capable of producing 3 volts. However, you can't use them interchangeably because they're not the same thickness. You can't use two CR2016s  to replace a single CR2032,  If you do it, you'll end up with 6 volts.  which will destroy whatever device you're using.

Is it possible to use CR2016 and CR2032  interchangeably? The thicker CR2032  battery will not fit into the CR2016 battery compartment in most devices that use a single CR2016 cell. In contrast, your gadget may get by with two stacked CR2016 coin-type batteries instead of one CR2032,  The size may be correct, but the voltage is incorrect. It is not recommended of stacking two CR2016s  yields 6V (3V+3V) rather than the 3V provided by a single CR2032.
